Medicare: coverage and enrollment questions
Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) for Medicare questions. TTY: 1-877-486-2048. Medicare’s contact page also provides online help and links to other agencies.
SHIP: free Medicare counseling
State Health Insurance Assistance Programs offer free, personalized Medicare counseling. A counselor can help you understand coverage choices, costs, and questions about a complaint or appeal. Use the national directory to find the program serving your state.
Social Security and state programs
Social Security handles Medicare Part A and Part B enrollment and applications for Extra Help with drug costs. State agencies handle Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs. Use official contacts to ask about eligibility, application steps, and current rules.
Eldercare Locator: support in your community
The Eldercare Locator connects older adults and families with community services, including local aging-services agencies. Ask about meals, transportation, caregiver support, and help at home. Call 1-800-677-1116 or use its website.
Prepare for the conversation
Grace offers general educational help. For a person’s assistance, use the direct contacts above. These guide pages do not send a summary ahead or guarantee a transfer to a particular counselor.
- Write your main question and keep any relevant notice nearby.
- Ask the organization what information it needs and how it protects it.
- Request a slower explanation, an interpreter, or an accessible way to receive information if needed.
- Keep notes about the next step and who to contact again.
