Help with Medicare costs and coverage denials
If coverage or medicines are hard to afford, there may be programs worth checking. If a claim or prescription is denied, the notice explains how to ask for a review. You do not need to sort through either question alone.

Programs to ask about
Eligibility rules and amounts change. Check current information with the agency that runs the program. These pages do not calculate eligibility or submit applications.
- Extra Help: assistance with Medicare Part D costs. Social Security can explain how to apply and who qualifies.
- Medicare Savings Programs: state programs that may help pay Medicare premiums and, depending on the program, other Medicare costs.
- Prescription cost assistance: ask Medicare, your plan, or your state about options that apply to your coverage and circumstances.
- Medicare Prescription Payment Plan: an option through your drug plan to spread covered out-of-pocket drug costs over the calendar year. It changes payment timing; it does not lower the total cost.

If something was denied
- Keep the decision notice. Check who made the decision and which service, item, or medicine it concerns.
- Find the appeal instructions and deadline in that notice. Different kinds of coverage have different processes.
- Ask your provider for information that supports your request, such as the reason the treatment is needed.
- If waiting could seriously affect your health, ask your provider and plan whether an expedited review applies.
- Keep copies of what you submit and note the date, confirmation number, and person you spoke with.
Get help with the next step
A SHIP counselor can help you understand an appeal process. Medicare’s website explains the steps for Original Medicare, Medicare health plans, and drug plans. Follow the instructions for your type of coverage rather than a generic timeline.
Grace can explain terms and help organize your questions. Community Wellness does not promise an appeal outcome or file an appeal through these guide pages.
